How Thoughts Become Your Reality

Updated: May 25, 2022

"Man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny. He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking glass." - James Allen

Learn to master your mind, and you will create your life experiences. The book, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, explains how thought is the determining factor in your life experience. Our thoughts are the source of our character creating our perspective, circumstances, and outcomes. If we learn to direct our thoughts toward our goals and desires, this changes who we are to be in alignment with what we want thus altering our situations and circumstances. We can say that we want something, but it is who we are being that attracts certain things into our life. Who we are being, comes directly from our thoughts.

Man is a sum of his thoughts. Just like a seed grows into a healthy plant starting with being planted in good soil, so does a person's life by having good thoughts.

"A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild, but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein and will continue to produce their kind."- James Allen.

The world we live in doesn't just shape us; we shape it too! Our thoughts are the source from which our attitude and character develop. Our attitude and character determine our actions which lead to what type of situations we end up experiencing. If a person loses their job because they are always late for work, this result is not a mere product of their circumstances but the consequences of their actions. The source in this scenario is thinking that being on time is not important, creating actions that reflect this thought and a supporting result. Thoughts are the first cause of our reality. They determine the actions we take or do not take, and those actions produce a result.

Roadblocks and setbacks happen, but how we think on a consistent basis is the greatest force in shaping our outcomes. Directing your thoughts toward your goals is a necessary component of achieving them. If you want a promotion at work, find a life partner, lose weight, or buy a house, your thoughts need to align with those goals. If you think about getting a promotion, you will start discovering ways to get one. If you think about finding a life partner you will end up in situations where you can meet one. Positive thoughts centered on your desires, lead to actions that move you toward that vision.
